Wholesome Wave Foundation, created in 2007 by Michel Nischan, Betsy and Jesse Fink, Priceline.com founders, and Paul Newman and Newman’s Own Foundation, is the 2008 beneficiary of Food and Wine’s Grow for Good campaign to raise money and support for local farmers and sustainable agriculture.

The Wholesome Wave Foundation is working to increase consumer access to locally- and sustainably-grown foods through three key initiatives: Wholesome Wave Farmers’ Market Program that leverages placement at farmers’ markets in white table cloth or high-income areas as a way to get growers to participate in or build markets in low-income areas; Green Wave Farm-to-College Program that joins farmers, educators, activists and culinary experts, to bring locally grown, healthy food to college campuses on a year-round, profitable basis; and a Sustainable Mentorship Program that taps into the environmental activism and enthusiasm of high school age “locavores” to teach the benefits of wise food choices to elementary and middle school age children.
