The Brakes

Formed in Philadelphia area in 2001 by a group talented young musicians, The Brakes have quickly grown from a local favorite to a touring rock band. The band has worked hard to develop their loyal hometown following while hustling to do the same in other markets. Throughout this process, The Brakes have had the good fortune to be able to support acts like Robert Randolph, Soulive, Addison Groove Project, Chris Robinson & New Earth Mud, Derek Trucks Band, MOFRO, The Legendary Wailers, The Disco Biscuits, moe. And many more. With an emphasis on compelling melody, refined songwriting and deep musical exploration, The Brakes sound brings to mind the classic sounds of yesterday while exposing the attitudes of a younger generation. Duel lead guitar lines soar over tight rhythmic syncopations; crisp harmonies blend nicely into powerful, catchy choruses; and just when you think its over, they switch instruments to reveal a horn section of jazz trained musicians, hiding among the guitars and keyboards. A sound that the Philadelphia Inquirer calls “Clutch rock”, The Brakes combine influences young and old; such as Traffic, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Wonder with The Black Crowes and Jamiroquai to create a new hybrid that combines strong rock & roll and classic soul influences.
