It is not true that John Fogerty wrote every hit song on the radio between 1968 and 1970 – it merely seems that way. Fusing elements of basic ‘50s roots rock and what was called the swamp groove – good going for a band from suburban San Francisco! – Creedence Clearwater Revival broke with a remake of the rockabilly classic “Suzie Q,” and then began to stack up classic after classic, each still listened to: “Proud Mary,” “Born on the Bayou,” “Bad Moon Rising,” “Lodi,” “Green River,” “Down on the Corner,” “Fortunate Son,” and “Travelin’ Band,” among many others. After years on the road, CCR broke up, and John would assume a solo career that has seen more hits, most notably “Centerfield.” John Fogerty’s music is quite simply one of the finest examples of classic American songwriting in existence
