In 1976 the first DGQ album (still in print) was released and changed the world of Acoustic music forever. With influences ranging from bluegrass to jazz, classical and rock, David “Dawg” Grisman formed his first stellar quintet (with Tony Rice, Darol Anger and Todd Phillips) creating what is now affectionately known as Dawg music. Just as many of the jazz and bluegrass greats of the last century came through the bands of Duke Ellington, Miles Davis and Bill Monroe, so many of the most influential instrumentalists of the contemporary acoustic music scene came through the ranks of the DGQ.

As if creating a whole new genre of music and being a very influential bandleader wasn’t enough, David has produced scores of recordings in many genres and founded his own label, Acoustic Disc in 1990. He’s played, recorded and toured with many legends of 20th century music including Vassar Clements, Bela Fleck, Jerry Garcia and The Grateful Dead, Stephane Grappelli, John Hartford, Zakir Hussain, the Del McCoury Band, Willie Nelson, Bonnie Raitt, Earl Scruggs, Mike Seeger and many, many more.

This year David will be releasing his 30th Anniversary album on Acoustic Disc and will be touring with his current veteran powerhouse lineup of Jim Kerwin on bass, Matt Eakle on flute, Enrique Coria on guitar, and George Marsh on drums and percussion.
