Alexa Wilkinson

Reset those clocks. It’s 2008 and much has happened in the past year. Hello there, I’m alexa.
I was born in Cherry Hill, NJ though and lived there till I was 11. When I lived in NJ is when my love for music started. Little did I know until my mother told me, I received my first guitar at age 4. I DO remember sitting on the couch with my dad learning Hotel California on a little guitar, but I guess I never thought twice about where this little 6 stringed instrument came from. After that, I took trumpet lessons when I was 9. My little 4th grade “boyfriend” if you would, took trumpet lessons, so I thought I’d try it out. My first band class was scary, like everything else, because I was scared that if I sucked at the trumpet I thought it would mean I didn’t understand music. Imagine fearing that at age 9. When I moved to Utah, I upped the ante in my instrument collection to a full drum kit in the middle of my room So after school, I would sit at my drum kit with a mix of my favorite songs to air drum to during the day, and I was rock out for hours. Funny enough, the first song I learned on the drummy drums was “Smooth Criminal” by the great Michael Jackson. So, obviously, I was on my way to becoming your typical “stay at home, don’t do any homework, just play music all night” type of person. I never wanted Harvard Law School. I never wanted a 9-5, I never wanted to just float along. Which is where all of the years I spent singing embarrassing songs in high school talent shows and jazz band concerts led me. I believe I was meant to write songs for the rest of my life. In 2005 I was given the amazing opportunity to start recording a demo in Salt Lake City, Utah with the help of my long time friend, Ben Carter. Together we produced 5 songs that got into the hands of the ever so amazing (no pun intended) Josh Kelley. I spent a week in LA writing with Josh that led to recording most of the tracks off my first full-length album Lullaby Appetite.
After recording with Josh in his Nashville studio, his manager Debbie Wilson took a chance on the unknown kid from Utah and signed me to her management company as a brand new artist. To be honest, that’s when I finally deemed is appropriate to call myself an artist. After signing with Wilspro, we finished up recording tracks for Lullaby Appetite, released the album Spring 2007 just in time for my first ever tour with Josh Kelley & Kate Voegele. After that, I toured on the east coast, writing every day, meeting new people, singing all night long. I had an amazing 2007 getting my feet wet, and I thank the energy that is god for the privilege to make people smile, cry, love, hate, muse over, laugh…. Basically just feel through music. I think trying to explain why I love to play music, is like trying to explain why your heart beats faster when you’re with someone you adore. I create music because I have an unconditional love for the ability to communicate in a universal language. My songs are for you. There’s nothing I love more than being told that one of my songs speaks to you somehow. I will hopefully be on tour near you one of these days, so come out to a show and have a good time. It’s a whole new year loves, lets make it a good one.
